National Burger Day History
National Burger Day is a day of appreciation for hamburgers. The term hamburger is derived from the city of Hamburg, Germany, where beef from Hamburg cows was minced and formed into patties to make Hamburg steaks.
The origin of the hamburger in the United States remains debated, although most claim that the hamburger originated between 1880 and 1900. Since then, this beef patty in a bun has become a global staple of the fast-food diet and the backyard cookout. In recent years, these traditional beef patties have been transformed to include other meat and vegetarian options such as, bison, ostrich, deer, chicken, turkey, veggies, tofu and bean patties. National Hamburger Day is celebrated annually on May 28th.
Keeping hydrated is an important part of staying healthy. Water promotes cardiovascular health, keeps your body cool, helps muscles and joints work better and keeps skin supple. Here is this week’s hydration recipe:
Watermelon Basil Water
2 cups watermelon, chopped
15 leaves basil, muddled
1 gallon of water
Add about 2 cups of finely chopped fresh watermelon (without rind) to a gallon-size glass jar. Add 15 leaves of muddled basil and 1 gallon of water to fill. Store in fridge and allow at least 4 hours to infuse.
Sally Ride Day: Today honors the first American woman to go into space. Dr. Ride accomplished this feat as a mission specialist aboard STS-7, the second flight of the Space Shuttle “Challenger”. STS-7 was launched from Kennedy Space Center on June 18, 1983.
Some people view Memorial Day as the start of summer, and celebrate with beers and a BBQ. There is nothing wrong with that. However, Memorial Day is also a day to remember those who were lost serving our country. Take a moment today to appreciate the freedoms we have because of those who fought to keep us free. If you know someone who has lost a friend or loved one, let them know that you are thinking about them today. Even a quick text can mean the world to someone who is missing someone special.
